LEGO Construction was hired to renovate the CT Scan room for the Jackson South Community Hospital, which serves the most southern areas of Miami-Dade County. The CT Scan project involved an interior expansion of an active facility currently being used as a reception area for the radiology department. The complete expansion included new areas such as waiting room, patient holding area, soiled utility room etc. Existing flooring contained asbestos which required meticulous abatement phased throughout the project in order to maintain the traffic and the safety of the patients and staff. In addition, the new space required the installation of a new air handling unit with its respective duct work, drain and water supply. One of the most important aspects of the renovation was the coordination of medical gas shutdowns performed after hours for the relocation of the medical gas control valves and the addition of medical gas outlets for the patient holding area. Furthermore, the project also involved a complete demolition of two bathrooms, to reform them to one ADA compliance bathroom which required water shutdown, slab demolition and relocation of sanitary lines. In addition to all the above, was the installation of lead drywall and the radiation leak test to verify that all the radiation content emitted by the equipment will not be released to the adjacent areas and affect other patients and or staff. The points of utmost importance were maintaining the proposed schedule and concluding the project at the owner’s designated deadline, due to the urgency of removing a mobile CT scan trailer.
